The Silent Witnesses are an exhibit of life-sized red wooden figures that represent thousands of women murdered in domestic violence situations. Each woman's name and story of her death is permanently affixed to the chest of the Silent Witness in honor and in memory of her life and as reminder to us all of the deadly effects of domestic violence. This exhibit is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness of domestic violence called the Silent Witness National Initiative. At present, all 50 U.S. States have created Silent Witnesses of their own.

Staff and numerous volunteers spend the years meticulously researching the stories of women murdered. Hours of phone calls to district attorneys and local law enforcement agencies, as well as hours pouring over newspapers finally paid off as the women's stories were committed to brass and permanently affixed to the newly built Silent Witnesses.

The March served as a call to action to end family violence. In Washington, D.C. on October 18, 3,000 advocates and 1,500 Silent Witnesses form around the country in the National March to End the Silence. Simultaneous marches were held in England and Canada, and the media coverage was unprecedented.

The Silent Witnesses rest safely at home in each state now but are ready to be exhibited all over. If you or anyone you know is interested in exhibiting the Silent Witness in your area, please contact WFFM at (800) 537-8748. We are prepared to help make your local exhibition a success with support materials and seasoned advice.
